Dalberg Advisors is looking to hire a Data Science and AI Consultant, based out of its offices in India. The Data Science & AI Consultant is responsible for designing, building, and delivering AI/ML and generative AI prototypes/products that enable Dalberg Advisor teams and clients to solve complex, high-impact problems across its practice areas. The role translates ambiguous problem statements into deployable, decision-support products by leading end-to-end delivery from data preparation and model development to evaluation, visualization, and creating demo-ready prototypes/products while ensuring usability, transparency of assumptions, and ensuring a measurable impact of the deployed prototypes/products.
WHAT YOU WILL DO AND HOW YOU WILL GROW
Principal accountabilities
Deploying machine learning and advanced analytics
- Apply supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods (regression, classification, clustering, dimensionality reduction, prediction) aligned to the problem context.
- Lead data preparation, feature engineering, and machine learning model training.
- Define evaluation strategies and metrics (e.g., cross-validation, error analysis, bias checks where relevant).
- Build reusable components (data pipelines, model utilities, evaluation scripts) to accelerate activities for other projects.
AI prototyping
- Design and build AI workflows (prompting, retrieval, tool use/function calling, orchestration) and package them into client-facing deliverables (apps, notebooks, lightweight APIs, or workflows).
- Implement appropriate quality checks and testing, privacy/security considerations, and documentation of limitations.
Data analyses
- Use advanced Excel and SQL for data preparation, analysis, modeling, and quality assurance of outputs.
- Translate complex analysis into clear analytical steps which are reproducible and reusable for wider adoption.
Stakeholder management and communication
- Engage with Project Directors and Project Managers and clients to clarify requirements, align on scope
- Provide regular updates to client service teams and ensure delivery milestones are met.
- Contribute to internal capability building through conducting knowledge sharing sessions, building reusable assets and documentation, and providing data and AI related coaching to junior consulting staff beyond technical skills, wherever applicable.
Work Experience and Education Requirements
Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, or any related quantitative discipline.
- Preferred certifications (optional, not mandatory): relevant cloud/data science/BI certifications (e.g., Azure/AWS/GCP fundamentals), Tableau/Power BI certification, or applied ML/AI certifications.
Work Experience
- 5–8 years’ experience delivering end-to-end data science and AI projects including data analyses and preparation, executing statistics and machine learning workflows, and build AI prototypes.
- Prior experience in management consulting, product, engineering and accounting/Big 4 firms is preferred.
- Proven ability to translate business problems into deployable models and decision tools with clear assumptions and measurable impact.
- Hands-on track record building Python-based analytics products (pipelines, notebooks, lightweight apps/APIs) and dashboards in Tableau/Power BI and strong Excel-based modeling experience is a must.
- Very strong verbal and written communication to enable explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and produce crisp client-ready outputs
- Self-starter with high ownership and entrepreneurial mindset. The candidate should be comfortable operating in ambiguity, proactively shaping scope, and driving delivery with minimal supervision.
Key Skills
Must have:
- Strong python programming experience for data preparation, modeling and basic API development.
- Strong conceptual knowledge of statistics and machine learning including supervised/unsupervised methods, feature engineering, evaluation, error analysis, and model interpretation.
- Prior experience in GenAI/LLM prototyping: system prompt design, workflow orchestration, tool use/function calling, and quality/robustness practices.
- Proven ability to explain and translate data and AI models to clients and consulting staff in plain English language
Nice to have:
- Experience in building data dashboards and visual storytelling in PowerBI/Tableau
- Experience in mapping software like ArcGIS/QGIS for geospatial analytics.
- Experience in executing data quality management practices
